Cuba, Chile, Colombia y Brasil.
Latin American Values and Hispanic Heritage in the USA
By José Díaz Díaz
Director of the La Caverna Foundation and American Hispanic
Empowerment
The framework of the celebration of the HISPANIC HERITAGE,
in the United States, reminds us to remember the values of
our peoples in the international arena, and this time it is
worth pointing out the recognitions in disciplines such as
Literature, which it has obtained with 6 Nobel prizes, just due
to the fervor for his creative passion.
Latin American literature is one of the arts in the region
with the greatest success in the world, with an outstanding
emphasis on the poetic and narrative production of Mexico
, Argentina, Cuba, Chile, Colombia and Brazil. Authors fromthese latitudes have earned their place in world literature
with six Nobel Prize winners for Literature:
• Gabriela Mistral (Chile, awarded in 1945).
• Miguel Ángel Asturias (Guatemala, awarded in 1967).
• Pablo Neruda (Chile, awarded in 1971).
• Gabriel García Márquez (Colombia, awarded in 1982).
• Octavio Paz (Mexico, awarded in 1990).
• Mario Vargas Llosa (Peru, awarded in 2010)
It is like a flash of "poetic justice" for this region that has
endured a history rich in suffering and such acknowledgments
become like balm to its courageous and unyielding spirit.
